Big picture: My parents stayed at the Silver Star Club Resort every winter during the month of February. I would visit them during my college breaks, bringing friends to ski the slopes of Vance Creek. At one time they had even considered buying a second home there. After my father past several years ago, my mother decided that she wanted to move to the East Coast of the US to be closer to my family. She expressed the desire to live in a senior living facility rather than by herself in a small apartment. She did not want to impose on us. So I began a search for a senior living facility.  I learned about Hart Heritage Estates, a home for seniors in Bel Air Maryland, about a twenty minute drive from where I live from my neighbor whose father is in one of the two homes. they operate. We selected the Forest Hill residential care facility that is located on 6.5 acres of park-like grounds with the Ma and Pa nature trail nearby. My mother loves to still go for walks and this seemed perfect. She has seen deer, foxes ,and rabbits from her room. And she keeps a pair of binoculars on the window sill to check out birds that land in the nearby trees. Just the other day during my weekly visit we looked at photo albums that had pictures of the Silver Star Club Resort and of us skiing. It was sometime around 2003. Looking at them brought back great memories. I was so inspired that I am planning a ski vacation for my family at the Vance Creek Hotel in the heart of Silver Star Mountain Village for next February. Although my mother will not be coming with us, she'll be able to share our adventures vicariously on Facebook!

More Background On SilverStarClubResort.com

SilverStarClubResort.com represents the historical digital presence of a once-prominent alpine lodging and conference destination located within Silver Star Mountain Resort, a well-known ski and summer recreation area near Vernon in Canada. The website, active primarily in the early 2000s, served as the primary marketing and informational platform for the Silver Star Club Resort and its associated Chilcoot Conference Centre.

Although the original brand has since evolved into what is now known as the Vance Creek Hotel & Conference Centre, the archived website offers a valuable window into the development of destination resorts during a transitional period in tourism—when digital presence began shaping travel decisions but still retained a distinctly brochure-like tone.

This article explores the ownership, location, amenities, cultural significance, and long-term legacy of SilverStarClubResort.com and the resort it represented.

Geographic Setting and Regional Importance

Nestled high above the Okanagan Valley, Silver Star Club Resort occupied a prime position within one of British Columbia’s most scenic and economically important tourism regions. The Okanagan Valley is internationally recognized for its vineyards, lakes, and year-round outdoor recreation, making it a natural hub for resort development.

The resort itself was situated approximately 22 kilometers northeast of Vernon, a mid-sized city that serves as a gateway to Silver Star Mountain. This proximity allowed visitors to enjoy both alpine seclusion and access to urban conveniences.

Silver Star Mountain Resort has long been considered one of Canada’s premier ski destinations. Known for its distinctive colorful Victorian-style village and dry powder snow conditions, it competes with other notable Canadian resorts such as Whistler Blackcomb and Big White Ski Resort, though it maintains a more intimate and family-friendly atmosphere.

The Silver Star Club Resort benefited directly from this positioning, offering true ski-in/ski-out access—an increasingly valuable feature in alpine hospitality.

Ownership and Organizational Structure

While detailed corporate ownership records of Silver Star Club Resort are somewhat fragmented due to its evolution and rebranding, the property was closely tied to the broader development and expansion of Silver Star Mountain Resort during the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Silver Star itself has undergone various ownership transitions, including periods under large resort operators such as Intrawest, which played a major role in shaping destination ski resorts across North America. These developments emphasized integrated resort villages combining lodging, dining, and recreational amenities—an approach reflected in the structure of Silver Star Club Resort.

The resort complex consisted of three main buildings—Vance Creek, Chilcoot, and Silver Creek—each functioning semi-independently while contributing to a unified guest experience. This modular approach allowed for diverse accommodation options and scalable operations.

Architectural Design and Accommodation Offerings

One of the defining characteristics of Silver Star Club Resort was its architectural cohesion with the surrounding village. The resort embraced the Victorian-inspired design language that defines Silver Star Mountain Resort, featuring colorful facades, wood detailing, and a pedestrian-friendly layout.

Vance Creek Building

The Vance Creek building served as the central hub of the resort. It functioned as the primary check-in location and housed a variety of accommodations, including standard guest rooms and multi-bedroom suites with full kitchens.

Amenities included rooftop hot tubs, ski lockers, retail shops, and dining establishments. Its location on Main Street placed guests at the center of village activity.

Chilcoot Building

The Chilcoot Hotel combined lodging with conference functionality. Its integration with the Chilcoot Conference Centre made it a preferred choice for corporate retreats, weddings, and group events.

Rooms ranged from deluxe accommodations to executive suites, reflecting the growing demand for upscale mountain lodging during this period.

Silver Creek Building

The Silver Creek Hotel was the newest addition at the time and emphasized spaciousness and comfort. Units featured fireplaces, balconies, and panoramic views of the Monashee Mountains.

This building catered particularly to longer stays and family groups, aligning with the trend toward extended vacation experiences.

Dining and Social Experience

Silver Star Club Resort distinguished itself with a diverse array of dining and social venues, all centered within the Vance Creek building.

Clementine’s Dining Room

Clementine’s represented the resort’s fine dining offering, with an emphasis on elevated cuisine and a refined atmosphere. Signature elements included table-side presentations and specialty beverages such as flaming coffees, which added a theatrical dimension to the dining experience.

Italian Garden Restaurant

The Italian Garden provided a more casual, family-oriented option, focusing on comfort foods like pizza and pasta. Its availability for takeout and room delivery reflected early adoption of convenience-focused services now standard in hospitality.

Fireside Lounge

The Fireside Lounge served as a relaxed gathering space where guests could unwind after a day on the slopes. Offering lighter fare and beverages, it played an important role in fostering social interaction.

Vance Creek Saloon

The Vance Creek Saloon was a cornerstone of the resort’s nightlife. Known for live music, local and imported beers, and a lively atmosphere, it contributed significantly to the resort’s identity as a social destination.

Winter Activities and Global Reputation

Silver Star Mountain Resort has consistently been ranked among the top ski destinations globally, particularly noted for its “champagne powder” snow—light, dry conditions ideal for skiing.

The resort offered over 100 trails spanning more than 2,700 acres, accommodating all skill levels. Terrain diversity ranged from gentle beginner slopes to advanced glades and double-black runs.

Beyond skiing, the resort provided a wide range of winter activities, including:

  • Snowmobiling tours through backcountry terrain
  • Snowshoeing with naturalist guides
  • Ice skating and hockey on outdoor ponds
  • Tubing parks
  • Sleigh rides and alpine dining experiences

These offerings positioned the resort as a comprehensive winter destination, appealing to both adventure seekers and leisure travelers.

Summer Transformation and Year-Round Appeal

A key evolution reflected in SilverStarClubResort.com was the emphasis on year-round tourism. As the ski industry matured, resorts increasingly diversified their offerings to attract summer visitors.

During warmer months, Silver Star Mountain transformed into a hub for outdoor recreation, including:

  • Mountain biking, including competitive events such as the Canada Cup
  • Hiking through alpine meadows rich with wildflowers
  • Scenic chairlift rides to panoramic viewpoints
  • Horseback riding and guided nature tours
  • Disc golf and family-friendly activities

The proximity to golf courses and lakes within the Okanagan Valley further enhanced its appeal as a summer destination.

Conference and Event Hosting

The inclusion of the Chilcoot Conference Centre highlights the resort’s strategic expansion into business tourism. Conference facilities allowed Silver Star Club Resort to host corporate events, seminars, and private functions.

This diversification provided a steady revenue stream outside peak ski seasons and contributed to the resort’s long-term sustainability.

Audience and Market Position

SilverStarClubResort.com targeted a broad audience, including:

  • Families seeking ski vacations
  • Couples and leisure travelers
  • Corporate groups and event planners
  • International tourists drawn to Canadian alpine experiences

The resort’s pricing strategy emphasized affordability relative to larger resorts, making it accessible while still offering premium amenities.

Cultural and Social Significance

The resort also reflects broader trends in early 2000s tourism:

  • The rise of integrated resort villages
  • Increasing importance of experiential travel
  • Expansion of year-round resort models

Its preserved website offers insight into how these trends were communicated to prospective visitors during the early days of online travel planning.

Transition and Rebranding

Over time, Silver Star Club Resort underwent rebranding and restructuring, ultimately becoming the Vance Creek Hotel & Conference Centre. This transition reflects broader industry consolidation and modernization.

While the original branding has faded, many of the physical structures and core experiences remain, demonstrating continuity in the resort’s identity.

Press, Reviews, and Public Perception

Although specific archived reviews are limited, Silver Star Mountain Resort as a whole has consistently received positive recognition for:

  • Snow quality
  • Family-friendly environment
  • Unique village aesthetic

Public sentiment often highlights the resort’s balance between quality and accessibility, distinguishing it from more commercialized destinations.

Legacy and Digital Preservation

SilverStarClubResort.com now exists primarily as a historical artifact, preserved through digital archives. Its content captures not only the specifics of one resort but also the broader evolution of online hospitality marketing.

The site’s structure—featuring descriptive text, amenity lists, and seasonal highlights—reflects early web design practices focused on information rather than interactivity.

For researchers, marketers, and historians, it offers a valuable case study in how resorts positioned themselves during a formative period in digital tourism.
